تداولت صفحات على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي بأن شركة PayPal باشرت عملها في سوريا ولاقى الادعاء انتشارا واسعا، مع قيام السوريون بتهنئة بعضهم البعض ليتضح أنه تم تضليلهم بالقول أن التحويلات المالية ستصبح أسهل. وتضمن الادعاء أيضا أن موقع الشركة الذي يحتاج لتشغيل برنامج "VPN" لكسر الحظر، بات يعمل بدونه من داخل سوريا.Refute
