انتشر على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي خبر أن "الزورق الذي استهدفه الجيش المصري يتبع تنظيم بيت المقدس، وفيه أحزمة ناسفة ومتفجرات".
لكن الحقيقة أنّ الجيش المصري أطلق النار على زورق صيد يحمل على متنه ثلاثة أشقاء فلسطينيين ليلة الجمعة 25 سبتمبر، ما أدى إلى استشهاد حسن ومحمود الزعزوع واحتجاز ياسر الزعزوع، ولم يصدر من السلطات المصرية أي تصريح يوحي بأنهم كانوا مسلحين.
وقد نعى رئيس الوزراء الفلسطيني محمد اشتية الصيادين ووصفهم بشهداء لقمة العيش.
